If you saw the site up and down over the past few days, I was attempting to migrate it to a new server.
I thought it would be rather straightforward, but nothing is ever that easy!
As I went through the process, it looks like I may have overdone it on hardening the website. As I couldn’t get my certificates to renew… Yes, literally 16 hours later, I have finally got everything back up and running.
It really needed to be done. The database, WordPress, OS versions were all older than dirt. It really needed to be done. It was also a chance for me to put some new skills to use to make things more modular.
I have succeeded though and it should still be able to be up non-stop for another 2 years lol. Maybe even more with how i got it setup. Upgrades should be easy to back out if things don’t go right and I shouldn’t have to bring the site down. It should be almost seemless.
I do find that kind of work fun unless I start chasing my own tail. Doing things over and over, then accidentally wiping the previous hours’ work… Well, it’s done now and now I’m going to play some Heros and Generals lol.
I will try to get back into the swing of publishing what I have written. It’s just nerve wracking, you know. People find your site and maybe link it back to who you are in RL. Then your RL friends find out you write fiction and want to read it then its embarrassing ergghh lol.
Still on my list is to harden up the site a bit more. Increase the processing power on the new server and double check dns entries and the like.
